More about our Guild
Hello! Quiltmakers of Olympia has been around for more than 35 years!
We are glad you joined us.
Below is a brief overview about our guild activities. Please add a brief description about the activities and information that you are knowledgeable about. Feel free to start a new Forum about each of these items independently, as needed, where pictures, more information, and discussion can happen. No pictures here please. Let's keep this a brief text overview of the guild. I listed a few things to get started, but please feel free to amend/correct my beginning notes. ~Anita
Meetings: Every Thursday morning in Crary Hall of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, except Holidays, August picnic, and when our meeting room is in use by the church. We follow the Olympia School District for weather cancellation. When the schools are closed or delayed for the day, we do not meet. We meet from 9:30 a.m. until noon, and the meeting room is open at 9:00.
First Thursday - Techniques: classes to learn quilting skills, or other programs.
Second Thursday - Business Meeting: Potluck, Free Table, and Show & Tell
Third Thursday - Community Service: Working in small groups, we sew, tie and label quilt tops to donate.
Fourth Thursday - Programs: Variety of presentations to include classes, speakers, and other programs.
Fifth Thursday - Board Meeting and Open Room for Member use: need some extra room to work on something, or just want to sew with a friend? Sometimes this day is used for Community Service extra activities like making
pillowcases or sewing Christmas Bags for the Food Bank.
Membership: Dues are $35 a year and Free for 90 and older. They are pro-rated to $17.50 March through May and $10 June through August.
Free Table: Bring things you don't need and find some treasures. Please take your items that remain at the end of the meeting. Items left on the table at the end of the meeting will be donated.
Silent Auction: Annual (semi-annual at times) silent auction to raise money for the Food Bank. Treasures galore! Members bring items they no longer want that are sold during a Silent Auction. Your items not purchased during the auction should be taken home. No Free Table at these business meetings.
Christmas Party: The business meeting in December is a Christmas Party with decorated tables, gifts, potluck provided by everyone, and music. There are several fun activities on this lively morning. Christmas Block lotto and Christmas gift exchange are optional. Table Hostesses prepare special decorations and gifts for each person seated at the table. Seating assignment is random to promote meeting new members.
Potluck: A Potluck is held monthly at the business meeting and provided by members. Half the alphabet each month by members' last name, except August and December for the picnic and Christmas Party.
