Quiltmakers of Olympia

We are a community of quilters based in Olympia, Washington who are passionate about all things related to quilting. Our quilting group offers a range of quilt learning activities, from our weekly meetings to retreats.  We’re always excited to welcome new members, regardless of experience level. Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned quilter, we invite you to come join us and explore the wonderful world of quilting.

Quiltmakers of Olympia was founded over 35 years ago with the following purpose:

​

"...to provide opportunities for members to enjoy fellowship and exchange ideas and techniques for quilting, to show projects they are working on, and to share information about sources for patterns, material, equipment, and publications."

Organized exclusively for charitable, and education purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Meetings and classes start at 9:30 a.m. and end by noon. 

The room is open at 9 for socializing and set-up.

We follow the Olympia School District for weather cancellations.

When they are closed or late, there will be no guild meeting.

First Thursday - Techniques

A chance to learn something new, or brush up on your skills and have fun.

Second Thursday - Business Meeting

Potluck, Show & Tell, plus a Free Table

Our largest meeting full of activities.

Third Thursday - Community Service

A lively morning completing donated quilt tops that are given to local charitable organizations.

Fourth Thursday - Programs

Interesting presentations and classes of all kinds related to quilting.  

Fifth Thursday - Board Meeting Plus Open Room for individual projects.

What would you like to know about quilting?  We love to share skills, collaborative quilt projects, and the latest quilting ideas.  The first and fourth meetings of every month are focused on learning.  Classes are taught by our talented members consisting of beginners to master quilters.  It's the perfect environment to learn and share. Come join us! Visitors are welcome!

Community Service

Community Service

We sew, tie, label, and decide which organization the quilts will go to from 9:30 until noon on the Third Thursday. Donations total over 300 quilts per year. Please join us.

January 23             Programs - Barbara Ridgeway will present What is a Modern Quilt?

This lecture will be the start of a multi month sampler class based on the book Sister Sampler Quilts by AnneMarie Chany. We will be providing instruction on how to make the quilt blocks, and discussion on traditional versus modern quilt design. Different layout options will be reviewed once we are close to completing the blocks. There is a YouTube video that provides an overview and review of the book. The book is available at the library. Members also cited Amazon and Thrift Books as other resources for the book. Barnes and Noble may have it or can order it for you as well. Click HERE for an informative video.

All skills welcome! A fun morning of sewing (bring a machine) tying quilts, pinning quilt layers, or hand sewing quilt labels. Your choice of activities! Quilt tops and completed quilts are always welcome and needed. These quilts are given to our community.

Membership

We invite you to visit any meeting and learn more about our group. 

 

Membership is $35 a year. 

​

Free for 90 and over.

​

Pro-rated to $17.50 March through May

and $10 June through August.

We meet the second Thursday in August for a picnic at Heritage Park in Olympia.

We follow the Olympia School District for weather cancellation. 

When the schools are closed or delayed for the day, we do not meet.
